Why an Art-full House?

Flash back to 2017

I’ve been moved into my house for about a year when my friend comments, “Why don’t you have anything on your walls yet?! You’re a painter, bare walls are a problem you shouldn’t have.” I couldn’t fault her criticism. I hadn’t unpacked completely, and I had plenty of art to hang and arrange, but hadn’t gotten around to it, leaving my house not quite moved into and definitely absent that homey vibe of cozy.

But art has even more benefits to our well being than just good vibes - us humans have been decorating our abodes before we even had language.

Don’t forget your entry, small things make a big difference.

Art is a powerful tool for self-expression and can have a positive impact on our mental and emotional well-being. When we surround ourselves with art that we love, it can create a sense of peace and harmony in our homes. Art can also inspire us, motivate us, and help us to connect with our emotions.

Here are just a few of the ways that art in your home can increase your sense of well-being:

  • Reduces stress and anxiety. Looking at art can help to reduce stress and anxiety by calming the mind and body. Studies have shown that people who spend time viewing art have lower cortisol levels, the stress hormone.

  • Boosts mood and happiness. Art can also boost our mood and happiness. When we see art that we enjoy, it releases dopamine in the brain, which is associated with pleasure and reward.

  • Enhances creativity. Art can also enhance our creativity. When we are surrounded by art, it stimulates our imaginations and helps us to think outside the box.

  • Promotes self-expression. Art is a great way to express ourselves and our unique personalities. When we choose art for our homes, we are saying something about who we are and what we value.

  • Creates a sense of community. Art can also help us to feel more connected to our communities. When we share our love of art with others, it can create a sense of camaraderie and belonging.

An art-full house.

  • Choose art that you love. The most important thing is to choose art that you love and that makes you feel good. Don't worry about what other people think.

  • Consider the mood of the room. When choosing art for a particular room, consider the mood that you want to create. For example, you might want to choose calming art for your bedroom and more energetic art for your living room.

  • Mix and match different styles. Don't be afraid to mix and match different styles of art. This can create a more eclectic and interesting look.

  • Don't be afraid to experiment. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to choosing art for your home. Experiment with different placements and arrangements until you find something that you love.
